Manchester United are likely to make several signings during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have had a tough Premier League campaign, and they are presently 13th in the table with just 37 points from 29 matches.
The club may have to win the Europa League to secure European and Champions League football next term.
Manager Ruben Amorim will be backed with plenty of transfer funds this summer, and a new defensive midfielder could be one of the priorities.
Manuel Ugarte has had a good start to his United career, but Amorim may want a solid competitor who can also play alongside the Uruguayan.
Casemiro had a couple of good outings before the international break, but the 33-year-old could be offloaded at the end of the campaign.
He will enter the last year of his United contract in July. The club could cash in on the Brazilian rather than lose him on a free transfer next year.
Casemiro is reportedly open to moving to the Saudi Pro League.
In our view, Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller would be an ideal replacement for the ex-Real Madrid star.
The 23-year-old has developed into one of the best defensive midfielders in the Bundesliga.
The Germany international has completed 89 percent of his passes this season, with 59 percent ground and aerial duels won per appearance.
Stiller has also won 1.6 tackles per outing alongside 4.7 recoveries and 1.7 clearances.
The Bayern Munich graduate is a good ball-playing midfielder with strong defensive attributes and would be an upgrade on Casemiro next season.
Stiller, described as a ‘midfield maestro‘ by Bundesliga.com, has been likened to Joshua Kimmich. He has three goals and six assists for Stuttgart this term.
It remains to be seen whether United consider an approach. It won’t be easy to prise him away.
Stiller has a £34 million release clause in his contract which will only become active in July 2026.
Stuttgart can cancel the buy-out clause for £1.7m anytime, and Stiller has no right to reject. He would receive the same amount immediately.
Hence, there is no advantage of a release clause. United may have to make an outlay of £40-45m to persuade Stuttgart to sanction his exit.
