One position Manchester City look set to improve this summer is left-back. There is room in Pep Guardiola’s squad for a specialist left-back. Especially when you look at how Pep Guardiola has set out his team tactically of late. Nico O’Reilly has made the role his own in recent games. His impressive form has allowed Josko Gvardiol to move to centre-back. That combination has seen an improvement in Manchester City’s performances. It had also added control and stability to City’s play both going forward and defensively.

Manchester City could be set to move for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.

Fraser Fletcher has reported for TeamTalk that Manchester City could be set to move for Bournemouth’s impressive left-back Milos Kerkez this summer. Furthermore, Fletcher reports that City are set to rival Liverpool in the race to sign Kerkez. Fletcher further reports that City are aiming to revitalise their squad with young players who can return them to the top of the Premier League. Lastly, Fletcher reports that Bournemouth are set to demand a transfer fee of at least £40 million to sell the Hungarian international. Lastly, Fletcher adds that both Liverpool and Manchester City find that a fair price for Kerkez.

Milos Kerkez has the potential to fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad.

The strengths of Milos Kerkez’s game do appear to be ideally suited to a role at Manchester City. He has shown at Bournemouth that he has the technical ability to be a key player in a team that plays technical and attractive football. Andoni Iraola’s side does that, and Iraola’s system has allowed Kerkez to shine. Going forward he is a weapon in possession. Kerkez is blessed with the pace to get up and down the pitch. He can be a weapon going forward as an overlapping full-back, but he also possesses the intelligence to invert into midfield when required. He can pick out a pass or play a quality cross when required.

Defensively, Kerkez is a solid defender. He is good in a duel and times his challenges well. Although, physically Kerkez is a smaller full-back. Compared to Nico O’Reilly he doesn’t possess the same physical attributes as O’Reilly. But if Manchester City were to sign Kerkez, the idea of Kerkez and O’Reilly sharing duties at left-back next season would give Pep Guardiola two different options to utilise.

It now appears that Manchester City may have entered the race to sign Milos Kerkez this summer. As per Fraser Fletcher’s new report they will face competition from Liverpool to sign the Bournemouth left-back. But it’s a move that makes sense if it is one that City pursue this summer.
