Manchester United and Manchester City are both interested in signing Diogo Costa from Porto this summer.
The Portugal international has been regularly linked with the Premier League in recent seasons and is again a player of interest heading into the summer.
Andre Onana’s unconvincing performances have led Manchester United to assess the market. The Cameroonian has made more errors leading to goals than any other Premier League goalkeeper since arriving at Old Trafford in 2023.
Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha are reporting that Ruben Amorim is open to signing compatriot Costa as a replacement. The 25-year-old is a player Amorim knows well from his time in the Primeira Liga. However, Manchester United could face competition from Manchester City and Chelsea.
City are weighing up an approach amid doubts over Ederson’s future. The Brazilian has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League after eight seasons at the Etihad. Chelsea, meanwhile, are also in the market for a new number one.
Interested sides will need to pay a fee close to Costa’s €75m (£64.4m) release clause to get a deal done. The goalkeeper has twice been named Primeira Liga Goalkeeper of the Year. Last summer, he became the first goalkeeper in European Championship history to save all penalties he faced in a shootout (3/3) as Portugal eliminated Slovenia.
