Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has sent a clear message to his attackers, urging them to score more goals.
He is determined to finish the season strongly as the Blues push for Champions League qualification and chase silverware in the Europa Conference League.
Despite five English teams qualifying for next season’s Champions League, Chelsea still risks missing out.
Poor finishing has cost the team valuable points this season. Maresca knows that his forwards must contribute more and has worked hard with them in training to address the issue.
The Italian has made it clear to his attackers that more end product is required in the final third. He also praised the improvement of some players but pointed out that more is needed.
“What we have said to all our offensive players is we need more goals and assists,” Maresca said.
“Jadon (Sancho), in the last games, is doing better, but we need goals and assists from Nico (Jackson), Cole, Noni (Madueke) and Enzo (Fernandez), who is doing well.
“We need them from those who are arriving in the opposition box.”
Maresca remains hopeful that Palmer and Jackson will soon rediscover their scoring form. Both players started in the Europa Conference League tie against Legia Warsaw.
“I am confident because they have scored goals – they just need to turn a little,” Maresca added. “But Cole scored 14 goals in 20 Premier League games – Nico was the same before his injury.
“Unfortunately, Nico was out for two months, so probably physically he needs to [improve] a little bit more, and it is the same for Cole [after his injury].”
