Millwall snapped up Mihailo Ivanovic from Serbian top-flight side Vojvodina last summer for what was, at the time, a club-record signing – but that price tag’s already starting to look like a bit of a bargain.
The Serbian striker bagged a brace in Millwall’s 3-1 win over Norwich on Easter Monday, taking his tally to 11 Championship goals for the season.
He’s leading the scoring charts for the Lions in his first year, with 12 goals in 37 games in all competitions.
Looking at under-21s in Europe’s 'Top 5' leagues and the Championship, only two - Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko (12) and Saint-Etienne's Lucas Stassin (12) - have netted in more league goals than Ivanovic so far.
He’s been on fire lately too - six goals in his last seven matches. After the game, Millwall manager Alex Neil said: “He’s just grown as a player. His link-ups have became better, his leading the line has become better, his understanding of when to press and how to press is becoming better.
“His movement in the box is a massive thing that I’ve been onto him since I walked in the building that he needed to improve on. As you can see with the chances he’s now getting, that’s improved hugely.
“We need to bear in mind, this kid is 20, he’s come from a foreign country, it’s his first season at this level and he’s got twelve goals, which is a remarkable sort of achievement for him personally."
