Millwall and Portsmouth face each other this Saturday at The New Den in Matchweek 40 of the EFL Championship.
The hosts are comfortably mid-table with 51 points to their name, although Millwall boss Alex Neil was unable to get one over on his former employers Sunderland last time out as the Lions lost 1-0 at the Stadium of Light.
Portsmouth, meanwhile, have surged up the table on the back of a very strong run of form at Fratton Park - Pompey (22) winning more points on home turf in 2025 than any team in the second tier. In their last fixture, John Mousinho's team won 1-0 against Blackburn Rovers and the south coast club will have their eyes on leapfrogging Millwall in the table in the near future.
That said, Millwall are one of only two teams to beat Portsmouth at Fortress Fratton since the turn of the year, and the Lions will no doubt want to complete a league double over their visitors this Saturday.
Omer (ThatMillwallPod): Seven games left now after a real up and down season, yet thankfully we're not fearing for relegation like we were this time last season! We are still somehow six points off the play-off places, do I think its doable? Not for me personally with trips to Brammall Lane and Turf Moor still to come.
Onto Saturday, home form has been patchy of late but with the 1-0 win last time out at The Den against Stoke, and having defeated Pompey already twice this season in league and cup, I hope we do the business this weekend. The visitors haven't come to The Den for a little while so I'm sure this will also add to the atmosphere. I'll back a 2-1 win for The Lions.
Injuries to Neghli and Azeez continue to hold us back in the wide areas, I do have a sneaky feeling we will see a back five between now and the end of the season so I'll go for it this time out.
Freddie Webb (Pompey News Now): Pompey made one step closer to safety against Blackburn at Fratton Park. Owen Beck’s going down gestures as he trudged off injured might not come to fruition, with Josh Murphy’s cool finish following some excellent link-up play from Colby Bishop being the major difference. Freddie Potts and Conor Ogilvie were standout performers in a defensively solid and scrappy performance.
Millwall is a tough matchup for John Mousinho’s men, as The Lions employ a more direct and aggressive style of football. Pompey have struggled against such an approach, Alex Neil’s men providing a textbook away performance during their 1-0 victory at Fratton Park. Fortunes have been different for them at home though, and The Blues seem to have put a cluster of disappointing performances behind them. Winning the midfield battle and creating space for Pompey’s talented attackers will be key to securing three points.
