After the Los Angeles Galaxy going up 1-0 within the game's first 15 minutes, it appeared that the six-time MLS Cup winners were on pace to win for the first time in the 2025 regular season.
A pair of late goals from Orlando City SC said otherwise. Another second half collapse by the Galaxy defense set them up for their fourth loss of the season.
Despite, Christian Ramirez's score at the 14th minute, Orlando City SC's Martín Ojeda and Luis Muriel sealed the fate for the LA Galaxy.
The ofense looked on fire for the first 15 minutes of the game. Christian Ramirez scored for the fourth game in a row, and third consecutive MLS regular season game.
A season ago, this team was the highest scoring offense in the MLS Western Conference. Now, they are struggling to find the back of then net.
"The [turn of the game] coincides with the soft penalty kick call. The problem I have in this situation is there are three other situations that are no less contact than that, and he always looked at us as if we're diving. The whole time, he says "play on" every time one of our guys is in a situation like that and gets a moderate amount of contact and goes down. "Greg Vanney, Head Coach of the LA Galaxy
Furthermore, they are struggling to stop teams from scoring in the second half. This marks the second game in a row that a late penatly kick prevented the LA Galaxy from a win.
Last weekend, Kelvin Yaboah of Minnesota United FC scored for the second time in the 2-2 draw against the LA Galaxy. His penalty kick in the 87th minute prevented the 2024 MLS Cup winners from their first win.
"I'm starting to get comfortable and understand my teammates, and the more I understand them, the more they understand me and my movements and where I'm going to be. Stuff like tonight will happen."Christian Ramirez, LA Galaxy forward
This appears to be a trend. For instance, Brian White of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC scored in the 87th minute against the Los Angeles Galaxy during their game on March 2nd. His goal led to the LA Galaxy's loss.
One of the LA Galaxy's highlights was the return of Joseph Paintsil. He subbed in for Tucker Lepley.
If the LA Galaxy are to turn their season around, not only does the offense need to pick up, but so does their second half defense. The LA Galaxy play four games in a 12-day span.
