Chelsea could shelve plans to sign a new left back after Ishe Samuels-Smith extended his contract according to reports.
Samuels-Smith signed a new six year contract earlier this month, which ties him down at Stamford Bridge until 2031, although he’s yet to make his Chelsea debut.
The 18-year-old joined the Blues from Everton in 2023, with the teenager said to be rated highly despite a distinct lack of first team action.
The Blues are set for a busy summer as they look to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad with a striker, centre back and right footed attacker.
Another position the Blues could do with reinforcements in is at left back, and currently there’s no alternative to Marc Cucurella.
Renato Veiga was signed with that role in mind, but he’s decided he wants to play at centre back, and there’s uncertainty surrounding his future, with the 21-year-old currently on loan at Juventus.

Chelsea will sell Ben Chilwell this summer, whilst they’ve been linked with the likes of Ajax star Jorrel Hato and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.
However, Football Transfers have reported the Blues could shelve their plans to sign a new left back after Samuel Smith’s contract extension.
The report adds the teenager could be promoted to the first team squad next season to provide much needed cover for Cucurella.
Chelsea can’t claim Samuels-Smith as an out and out academy product given they signed him when he was 16, but it’s believed they think he’s first team ready.
The teenager has made 21 appearances this season across the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

Maresca hasn’t been afraid to use the academy and he’s handed debuts to a number of Chelsea youngsters this season, although that’s been made easier by being in the Conference League.
It will be interesting to see what Chelsea decide to do with Samuels-Smith, and a loan to a Championship club would be highly beneficial, but the Blues could also save money by promoting him to the first team picture.
