Arrigo Sacchi urges Milan and Roma to call Carlo Ancelotti but insists Real Madrid should think twice before sacking the Italian tactician: ‘I’m familiar with Florentino Perez…’

Ancelotti is not expected to continue at Real Madrid in the 2025-26 season, and a recent report from Sky Sports even suggested that the Merengues could sack the Italian after the Copa del Rey Final this month.

Ancelotti’s Real Madrid were eliminated from the Champions League quarter-finals by Arsenal this week and sit second in the La Liga table, four points behind Barcelona.

“What makes me sad, even if this is part of football, is that everyone is criticising Carletto because of a Champions League exit and blaming him for the elimination,” Sacchi told Gazzetta.

“Do these people have any idea who Ancelotti is? Do they know what he has won? I consider him a real master of the game, not just because of the trophies, but also for his human qualities. Real Madrid should think not once, but twice or three times, before letting go of someone like Carletto.

“Let’s look at his squad this season. He had many injuries, and he was forced to play many matches without a natural defender,” continued Sacchi.

“They signed a striker [Mbappé] who was supposed to be a phenomenon, but didn’t play as such. I know the Real Madrid environment well, and I’m familiar with Florentino Perez because I worked as Real Madrid’s technical director. He is a great President, but he focuses on strikers too much. Just think that to convince him to sign Sergio Ramos, I had to fight for three months, because he doesn’t even look at defenders.”

Serie A giants Milan and Roma will change their coaches in the summer, and Ancelotti has been linked with both teams.

“I don’t know what Carletto wants to do. Apparently, the Brazilian federation has been after him for a while now, and surely the chance to coach the Seleçao at the World Cup is tempting,” said Ancelotti.

“In any case, I’d give Carletto a call if I were at Milan or Roma, it doesn’t cost anything. I don’t know if the dream will come true. For now, let’s just keep dreaming.”

Ancelotti is the coach with the most Champions League victories, five, three with Real Madrid and two with Milan.

The Italian tactician returned to the Bernabéu in 2021 for his second stint at the club and has since won two Champions League titles.
