Liverpool manager Arne Slot has refused to accept the Premier League title race is over and insists ‘so many things can happen’ in the run-in.
Liverpool extended their advantage in the title race to 12 points after a 1-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside Derby on Wednesday night. Diogo Jota’s winner secured the points to restore the Reds’ cushion over nearest challengers Arsenal.
Liverpool now need a maximum of 13 points from their final eight games to be crowned champions.
However, Slot is taking nothing for granted and said the difficulty of the Premier League means anything is possible. Liverpool next travel to face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
“In theory so many things can happen. We felt yesterday how hard it is to win a Premier League game,” the Dutchman said at his pre-match press conference.
“Yes we won it and yes we are very happy with it but David Moyes deserves a lot of credit for how his team was lined up and how difficult he has made it for every single team he has arrived there. It is nice for us that we beat them because we know how hard it is.
“It tells you that with eight games to go, every game is a challenge – starting with Fulham, who are having a very good season as well.
“We are not working on theories about how many points, we are taking the challenge of Fulham where we will need to be at our best again to get a result.”
