Southampton hero learns brutal Championship reality in first showing

Victor Wanyama's pleasant week concludes on an awful note after the midfielder's blooper leaves Dunfermline helpless in the Scottish second-division.

Championship is often regarded as the easier football level among British circles. Measuring with the Premier League benchmarks, it feels almost a no-brainer to downplay the second-tier matchups regardless of the thrill they offer every now and then.

Thus, it has become an unwritten notion that a proven Premier League player is bound to walk over the Championship challenges. But exceptions are usual suspects everywhere and unfortunately Victor Wanyama endured a laughable blooper moment on his first Dunfermline showing.

Now, the recent days brought a wide smile to Southampton fans on watching Wanyama's heartfelt linkup with Neil Lennon. And it goes without saying that both Saints as well as Dunfermline fans expected the former to light up the Championship midfield from the get-go.

Wanyama begins his Dunfermline career with a surprising error

Clearly, I don't want to hinder their hopes but Wanyama may have learned the brutal competitiveness still present in the Scottish second-division. While anticipating a regular back pass in his own half, Wanyama initially fumbled the ball and later his balance.

The bloopers doesn't stop here, though. In regaining the possession, Wanyama mistakenly handled the ball and was awarded with an obvious red-card for his efforts.

Following this unexpected moment, fans must have been reminded themselves that Wanyama is in the conclusive stages of his career. On top of that, he was coming on the back of a significant Major League Soccer stint and therefore, it will take him some time to adapt to the robust Scottish game again.

Nonetheless, it isn't justified to write-off Wanyama after just one game. Indeed, the midfielder will switch to dominate the middle of the park as we have seen him doing countless times, but Dunfermline fans would want those occasions to come fast and quick.

Let's hope that Wanyama gives some cheerful moments to them and even the Saints who will always want to watch him succeed.
