Southampton vs Crystal Palace: Preview, predictions and lineups

Crystal Palace are searching for their sixth straight victory in all competitions when they visit Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

The Eagles have been in exceptional form since the turn of the year and have lost just twice in 2025. Ten victories from 13 outings have seen Palace climb the Premier League table and secure their place in the FA Cup semi-finals - the latter they achieved by beating Fulham 3-0 at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Southampton's disastrous form could hardly be more contrasting, with the Saints still yet to surpass Derby County's infamous 11-point Premier League tally. They have accumulated just nine since the beginning of the campaign and have avoided defeat just once in their previous 12 league outings. They're destined for the drop and are playing for nothing more than pride during their final nine fixtures.

Here's 90min's guide to the match.

Southampton need all the help they can get to salvage a sliver of joy from the end of the campaign but defensive injuries are making their lives more challenging. Taylor Harwood-Bellis and James Bree are both struggling with fitness issues and the latter is guaranteed to sit out on Wednesday.

Will Smallbone is another confirmed absentee for the Saints, while the lesser-seen duo of Ryan Fraser and Ross Stewart are both significant doubts to feature against Palace.

Will Hughes serves the second of his two-game suspension at St Mary's and Palace will also be without Cheick Doucoure in the centre of the park, with the Mali international sidelined for the remainder of the campaign with injury.

Long-term defensive absentees Joel Ward and Chadi Riad are both in the treatment room as well, with the return dates of the pair still unknown.

Oliver Glasner could send out the same starting XI that beat Fulham comfortably.

Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Southampton (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Wharton, Lerma, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze; Mateta.

Southampton enter every fixture as significant underdogs and they should be on the receiving end of defeat once again on Wednesday, especially given the excellent form of Glasner's well-organised Palace team.

The Saints have scored in their last two matches and may breach their fatigued visitors, but the brilliance of Eberechi Eze, Ismaila Sarr and recent returnee Jean-Philippe Mateta should help the Eagles pour more misery on their hopeless south coast hosts.
