Chelsea hope to have Marc Guiu back in May but are being extremely careful with the striker according to The Athletic.
Guiu arrived at Chelsea from Barcelona last summer after the Blues activated the £5m release clause in his contract.
The 19-year-old has made three Premier League appearances totalling just 70 minutes, although he’s fared much better in the Conference League, where he’s scored six goals in six league phase matches.
Chelsea have been without the teenager since February 3rd after he picked up an injury in the win against West Ham at Stamford Bridge.
Nicolas Jackson also got injured in that game and was ruled out for two months, which would have handed Guiu plenty of opportunities had he not also picked up an injury.
Maresca stated earlier this month he hoped to have Guiu back before the end of the campaign, although there are now just five games left.
Guiu hasn’t featured for Chelsea since the start of February.
However, The Athletic’s Simon Johnson has now provided an update on the striker and revealed Chelsea are being very cautious with him.
“The hope is that he could be back for the busy May schedule and the CWC, but Chelsea are being very cautious with him,” he told The Athletic’s Chelsea mail bag.
“Guiu has recovered from the leg abductor injury sustained against West Ham United. Now it is about building strength in his leg muscles and working his way back to training with the team.
“Chelsea are taking it on a week-by-week basis. The 19-year-old has a long career ahead and they do not want to risk a recurrence.”

It’s good to hear Guiu has recovered from the initial injury and it’s right Chelsea take their time to make sure he’s absolutely 100% before he returns to action.
If fit Guiu will likely play a role at the Club World Cup, but what Chelsea’s plans are for him next season remain unclear, but a loan move could perhaps be best for all parties given the Blues are looking to sign a striker this summer.
