Tottenham could watch Real Madrid steal away one of their rising stars

Tottenham have mostly been atrocious in the 2024/25 season, particiarly in the Premier League, but one reason for hope has been the immediate breakout of new signing Lucas Bergvall. And predictably, Real Madrid are already keeping a close eye on the Spurs 19-year-old standout.

Thankfully, Tottenham clearly know what they have in Bergvall, who has been their best center midfielder this season, as they recently signed him up to a six-year contract extension that should ward off most interested parties for the foreseeable future.

However, according to a report from Danny Rust and Dean Jones of GiveMeSport, Real Madrid are still monitoring Bergvall's performances at Tottenham and have not been dissuaded by the recent long-term deal he has penned with Spurs. Tottenham aren't interesting in selling this summer and Bergvall is not interested in leaving, so Madrid are merely keeping tabs on the ascending talent as a possible future recruit.

Tottenham already beat Barcelona to Lucas Bergvall

Real Madrid are always keeping an eye on the best young talents in the world, so their interest in Bergvall as a long-term target is neither surprising nor alarming from a Tottenham perspective. If anything, it is an endearment and further affirmation of the excellent work Bergvall has done.

Remember, Tottenham already beat a LaLiga giant to Bergvall's signature last year, signing the gifted box-to-box midfielder ahead of some very strong interest from current Spanish league leaders FC Barcelona.

Bergvall is going to be at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for several more years, and it probably won't be until this six-year contract ends that Real Madrid would be seriously interested. As the Kylian Mbappe and potentially Trent Alexander-Arnold signings are showing us, Madrid are mostly interested in signing top players for free, as opposed to signing them away for top dollar.

Tottenham should be adding more midfield talent

Still, any top team being interested in a rising star at Tottenham is bound to concern fans, who know historically not to trust chairman Daniel Levy to do the right thing. There is a laundry list of great players whom Tottenham have sold before enjoying their peaks, including to Real Madrid themselves, and it's hard not to be a little wary when Levy gets wind of a big-name suitor going after someone.

But, for now, Tottenham supporters should expect to enjoy the quality Bergvall brings to a midfield that was clearly crying out for a player like him. If anything, they need to be looking for players to add to him and not even think about a future without Bergvall these next five years.
