It is almost unheard of to have a 39-year-old player boss around the field in Europe’s top leagues given how competitive the sport has become.
Luka Modric’s class and quality, in that sense, are simply unparalleled as he is not only doing it in Europe but for Real Madrid which is one of the biggest institutions in the sport.
Every season that passes appears to be Modric’s final season at Real Madrid, but his tenacity, quality and ability to make a difference leaves the management with no choice but to provide him a renewal.
His prominence in the first team may have reduced over the years, but he continues to be one of Carlo Ancelotti’s most trusted options in complicated situations, especially off the bench.

Speaking to Telefoot in a recent interview, Real Madrid legend Luka Modric commented on his future at the club and admitted to wanting to finish his career while still donning the white color jersey.
“I would like to retire at Real Madrid. It would be a dream for me, but we will see what happens. I am not under any pressure.”
He was then asked about a potential contract renewal for another season which still appears to be a distant negotiation for Real Madrid. To that, he responded by iterating that there was a long way to go in the current season,
“A new contract? No rush. The season is still long, we have a lot of games. We’ll see then. My dream is to retire at Real Madrid.”
It remains to be seen how the saga of Modric’s future unfolds at the Spanish capital. If the player keeps up his current level of form, however, there is simply no reason why the management should hesitate in the slightest to award him an extension.
