Manchester United target Matheus Cunha left a few clues that he may be angling for a move to Old Trafford in yesterday’s game.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers’ attacker played a key role in the Black Country side’s 1-0 win away to United and he won the free kick that Pablo Sarabia converted late on in the game.
The Red Devils have lacked attacking options all season and yesterday’s match applied a huge microscope to these problems.
With a much changed side, United actually played quite well and had the majority of the chances, but spurned numerous opportunities with wasteful finishing – an issue which has plagued the Reds all season.
One player that has been regularly linked to a summer move to Old Trafford is Wolves player Cunha, who reportedly favours a move to Manchester.
The Manchester Evening News highlights a few of the player’s actions yesterday that suggests he could have been hinting towards a summer move.
During the pre-match warm-up, he could be bizarrely seen rubbing the Old Trafford pitch onto his legs, perhaps literally trying to soak up the atmosphere of the hallowed turf.
Another video emerged of the attacker being the only Wolves player to acknowledge the home fans as he left the pitch just before coming out again for kick-off.
What’s more, at half-time when the forward was entering the tunnel, United head coach Ruben Amorim could be seen putting his hand on the player’s back and greeting him in a way he did not any other opposition player.
In addition, Cunha was also on his best behaviour yesterday. He is known to be a hot-headed player who can get involved in spats easily but he was visibly careful not to get into any angry exchanges with the fans or United players.
He was also seen to be in deep conversation with his compatriot Casemiro after the match had finished, perhaps discussing life at Old Trafford.
Of course, this is not definitive proof that the Brazilian will join the Red Devils in the summer, but it certainly adds further fuel to the fire.
Cunha has been electric for the Molineux side this season, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists in 31 matches.
