Flynn Downes weighed in on the hat-trick of missed chances that denied Southampton a win over West Ham.

Arriving in touching distance of a win only to see that joy dashed, loudly speaks a Southampton feeling. The Saints have been the targets of last-minute goals on many occasions, thus, they know how it feels to split those hard-earned points.

In front of West Ham, this was the reason why Southampton fans were extremely glad to be on the favoured side of this balance.

Simply put, the Saints forked out a precious point in the eyes of their fans. Coming to the players, that statement doesn't fit true as they believe that the evening could have turned into a win if not for a hat-trick of decisive misses.

Tyler Dibling missed a close-range sitter

Voicing these opinions, the Daily Echo quoted Flynn Downes saying: "Hitting the bar, Kyle's chance, Ty's chance in the second half. I thought it was the least we deserved but it's a tough place to come."

Truth be told, Downes is right as the first half scoreline could have ended with Southampton claiming a two-goal cushion on the home side. Walker-Peters narrowly missed the bottom corner and Sulemana even came close to finding the wood-work but even that didn't found the back of the net.

Later, Southampton's easiest chance throughout the game fell to Tyler Dibling who couldn't have asked for a better opportunity to announce his return to form. Yet, Dibling's finishing nerves got the better of him which was the third time Simon Rusk's men fumbled their attacking sequences at the ultimate stage.

Though the Southampton squad will be drowned in their 1-1 celebrations, these errors need to be addressed. Ultimately, such feeble finishing can be harsh on the Saints when they can't turn up with any late goals to balance out the result.
