Al-Hilal is not taking its eye off Europe's top division. This time, however, they've come back with renewed intensity, targeting a name who has become a crucial figure at Barcelona. Brazilian winger Raphinha, enjoying the best season of his career, was presented with something that is hard to turn down: $200 million in salary over four years — $50 million a year. That kind of money is sure to make anyone pause, even someone wearing one of soccer's most iconic jerseys.
The story leaked out through Barça newspaper Sport, who said the Saudi club had shown renewed interest and outlined the amounts involved. Al-Hilal, having lost Neymar and seen its super-star plan stalled, needs a new face for its high-spending plan. And they're hoping Raphinha can be that man.
If there’s one thing Saudi soccer has proven lately, it’s that money isn’t an issue. The offer made to Raphinha drives that point home. We’re talking figures that rival some of the biggest contracts in sports history. And even though the Brazilian is under contract with Barcelona until 2027, the math starts to shift when those zeros pile up.
For now, Raphinha publicly insists that he wants to stay. According to the same story, he has no intention of leaving, at least not in the near future. What is stopping him? The trust of Hansi Flick, who played a leading role already in convincing him to stay last season when there were other offers.
But for how long will that dedication persist? The question literally asks itself. And the answer does not rest solely with Raphinha. It also rests with the way that Barcelona views its financial reality. The club does not want to sell him, but for €100 million there is already an offer. And we know that no matter how high the speeches regarding holding onto the team may reach, even giants have boundaries.

Al-Hilal is operating in crisis mode. The market was turned into a hunting ground. Vini Jr. was mentioned. So was Salah. Neither materialized. Raphinha is now a target, one of the rising stars whose name keeps growing and growing.
The Saudi club doesn't just want a good player. They want a brand. A name that is heard off and on the field. A name that is one of ability and global recognition. And Raphinha is well on his way to being that, quietly but surely. With complete performances, solidity, and impact in big games, he's starting to pen his own story, the kind of story Al-Hilal wants to be the center of attention.
Packing to depart Europe is never a straightforward move. And when the destination is Barcelona, that pressure increases. Raphinha knows he's in a club with heritage, profile, and a coach who values him. To add to it, he's in an era where his name is being mentioned in early Ballon d'Or discussion, something unimaginable not so many years ago.
Leaving all that behind for a work-in-progress proposition, even one with a life-changing financial reward, takes guts. Or at least, an extremely strong sense of personal priorities. It's a matter of what matters most in the short and mid-term. Staying at the top competitive level or going in a different direction for financial security and comfort?
Neither choice is wrong. But they take you down two very different roads.
The Catalan club is saying no, at least for the time being. They declare they won't sell, that Raphinha is crucial, and that he's part of the sporting plan. But modern soccer isn't about believing. When these numbers are laid on the table, speeches start to falter. Especially at a club with documented financial struggles trying to balance ambition and reality.
That €100 million offer is attractive. And it could be a case of how long before Barcelona negotiate. It is all about time and Raphinha. If he decides in his mind that he does want to leave, then the situation is different. And the club, whether they will or not, is at the discretion of the player's decision.
