FC Barcelona advanced to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League following a 4-1 aggregate win over SL Benfica in the Round of 16.
In the next round of the competition, the Catalans are set to face the finalists of last year’s UCL edition, Borussia Dortmund.
There is no doubt that this is going to be a highly interesting tie for both sides. However, one player for whom this game will be particularly special is Robert Lewandowski, as he will be facing the club with whom he rose to prominence, i.e., Dortmund.
As SPORT has reported, the Polish forward himself admitted that this will be a special tie for him as he appeared in a recent interview. Talking about the game against BVB, the Pole said:
“I’ve already played many matches there, so I approach it a bit differently. This will be the second game, so we want to impose our own rhythm from the start, focus on playing as well as possible in defense, score as many goals as possible, and advance to the next stage.”
“I spent four wonderful years there, but this is sports, and on the field, all those memories will probably be forgotten. Favorite? Let’s step onto the pitch and prove who is better.”
The Barcelona ace also previewed the upcoming second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid:
“It’s always difficult to play against them, especially in their stadium. I hope that when we return from the national team break, we maintain this level or even improve. We know that this is a particular team that sometimes may not play well, but they can have their moment, and we have to be ready for that.”
In this interview, Lewandowski also expressed his confidence that Lamine Yamal will improve after having missed a penalty in the shoot-out against The Netherlands:
“He still has everything ahead of him, so surely he will have time, maybe he will realize something.”
Barcelona have some very important games coming up for them, but with the form they have shown this season, they will not really be concerned about facing some of the biggest teams in Europe and Spain.
