Barcelona are always on the lookout for ways to strengthen their squad, and while much of the focus this summer is on improving outfield positions, the goalkeeper situation has not been ignored.

According to CuleMania, Sporting director Deco is keeping a close eye on the market, and some interesting names have come under consideration.

One of them is Alex Remiro of Real Sociedad. The 30-year-old shot-stopper has proven himself to be one of the most reliable keepers in La Liga, and Deco is said to be a big admirer. With a contract until 2027, however, a move wouldn’t come cheap.

Then there is Joan Garcia from Espanyol, considered one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Spain. Barcelona like him, but so do Real Madrid and several Premier League sides.

His release clause is reportedly around €30 million, and all signs point to a summer move. Yet despite the strong interest, Barcelona are unlikely to make a move right now.

Szczesny to Stay, Pena to Go

The reason Barcelona are not expected to sign a new young goalkeeper this summer lies in their current plans. Barring any surprises, Wojciech Szczesny and Marc-Andre ter Stegen will be the two main goalkeepers next season.

The club is already working on a contract renewal for Szczesny, and the Polish veteran has made it clear he wants to continue at the club.

Szczesny is expected to stay for at least one more season, and together with Ter Stegen, they will form an experienced and trusted pair in goal. Behind them, young Diego Kochen could be promoted as the third-choice keeper.

Unfortunately for Inaki Pena, the situation spells the end of his time at the club. The young Spaniard has grown frustrated with the lack of minutes and is now expected to be sold this summer.

Looking further ahead, Barcelona may revisit the idea of signing a younger goalkeeper in 2026, once Szczesny moves on. Until then, Flick will rely on two veterans to bring stability and leadership at the back.
