Barcelona have secured an important financial boost after West Ham United made Jean-Clair Todibo’s transfer from Nice permanent, reports BBC.

The move was triggered once West Ham confirmed their Premier League status for next season.

As part of the agreement, West Ham will pay around €42 million to sign the French centre-back. Thanks to a smart clause Barcelona had included in Todibo’s sale to Nice, they are now set to receive 20% of this fee.

That means the Catalan club will pocket roughly €8.5 million, helping to improve their salary cap for the upcoming season.

It is to be noted that Todibo arrived at Barcelona at a young age but was never able to cement his place in the first team, even though the coaching staff believed in his potential.

He was eventually sold to Nice for €8.5 million, with Barça wisely keeping 20% of his economic rights — a decision that has now paid off handsomely.

Although Todibo initially found it tough to adapt to English football, he eventually earned a regular spot in West Ham’s starting line-up.

His performances were strong enough for the London club to commit to a full transfer, and he has now signed a four-year deal with them, aiming to establish himself further in the Premier League.

From an investment of just €1 million, Barcelona have ended up making around €17 million through Todibo’s transfers over the years. However, with the latest deal with West Ham, the club no longer hold any economic rights over him.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are hopeful of similar positive outcomes with other players whose rights they partially retain. Deals involving Ez Abde or Oscar Mingueza could also bring in extra funds this summer if transfers are completed.
