Barcelona’s success this season is, to a large extent, because of Hansi Flick’s tactical masterplan and tweaks to the system. Moving to a double pivot, needless to say, is one of the biggest changes he brought which has paid off.
Marc Casado, on that front, has been instrumental for Barcelona this season especially when the team was adapting to the new formation. He formed a stable anchor for the team alongside Pedri and is now a regular part of Hansi Flick’s project.
An unfortunate injury has placed him on the sidelines until the end of the season, but he will be back in contention for regular minutes at the start of the new campaign.
Speaking to the media in a recent interview, the Barcelona midfield star remembered the day he was told he would be called up for pre-season with the first team.
“At that time I was getting off a mini-vacation with my friends in Andorra and, well, we collided, we scratched the car coming down from Andorra and I was super scratched. We scratched the car a little and of course, I was super angry,” said Casado.
“And then a call woke me up and I angrily asked myself ‘Who the hell is calling me?’,” he added.

On how his mood lit up after the news and brought excitement, Casado stated:
“It was the next morning, I was still sleeping and, well, it was the sports director of the subsidiary who told me: ‘You should know that in two weeks you start preseason with the first team’.”
“I was shocked. At that moment I was f***ed up, sleepy, angry and in a bad mood but then very happy,” he added.
The player also spoke jovially on a common internal topic of discussion in the dressing room where he is considered to be the most stingy in terms of spending.
“In the Barça locker room, they talk about money, about spending. We talk about pasta but the one they spend. Not of investments. We talk about what they have bought, but I’m the most grasped.”
“On top of that, they tell me, there’s no doubt. I have the label of the Barça ‘miser’. I’ve totally earned it. Sometimes we go to dinner but they usually pay the same,” he added.
