Former Milan coach Fabio Capello noted ‘a bit of arrogance’ in Simone Inzaghi’s choices against Milan, but believes questions over Sergio Conceiçao’s future are ‘misleading.’

Milan beat Inter 3-0 in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal on Tuesday, qualifying for the Final in Rome on May 14.

Capello described the Rossoneri’s win in his column for Gazzetta dello Sport as “Clear, decisive and thrilling, something we’ve rarely seen this season.

“Inzahgi’s team had chances to take the lead in the first half, but in the second half, Milan were confident, strong and determined,” continued the ex-coach.

“Inter vanished, as it happened on other occasions too. Many will talk about fatigue, but I think it’s more of a mental issue. I would not be surprised if the defending champions had lost a bit of touch with reality after beating Bayern Munich.

“I hope the win over Bayern Munich is not seen as a final destination, but as a starting point for something more important.

“I sense a bit of arrogance even in Inzaghi’s choices,” he continued.

“He rotated in a derby that was almost like a Final. This time, it seemed that he underestimated the Coppa Italia a bit too much.”

Milan have finished the campaign without defeats against Inter this season and will have a chance to win a second trophy this term. At the same time, they sit ninth in the Serie A table and are highly likely to miss out on a Champions League spot.

“Even beating Bologna in Rome on May 14 would not save a season when you’re not even fighting for a Champions League spot,” argued Capello.

“Winning a trophy is clearly better than nothing, but will it be enough to confirm Conceiçao on the bench? I think the question is misleading. I’d focus more on the locker room and whether there’s a shared path that gives reason for optimism in the future.”
