Transfer rumours are starting to crop up left, right and centre as we quickly head towards the summer window. While there is still a decent bit of football left to be played this season and two trophies for Celtic to compete for, one would imagine that a lot of fans are already wondering about what kind of signings the Hoops will make in order to strengthen Brendan Rodgers' squad, after losing back-to-back Glasgow Derbies.
The 3-0 loss at Ibrox was viewed by many as a one-off performance. The same excuse cannot be used after the 3-2 defeat at Parkhead. There is clearly room for improvement.
Hopefully, Celtic will sign some players who are ready to come in and immediately improve the starting XI. But on the other hand, key names are being linked with moves away from Glasgow as well.
Cameron Carter-Vickers had arguably his worst game in a Celtic shirt against the Rangers at the weekend. But that does not mean that anybody wants to see him leave in the summer. As a result, the recent rumours linking the American centre-back with Everton have come as a worry.
Celtic have been backed to turn down any interest in Carter-Vickers in the summer. As reported by Football Insider, former Manchester United scout Mick Brown said:
"Carter-Vickers is an important player for Celtic.“He’s gone up to Scotland and made himself a key player for Brendan Rodgers.“But I’m not quite convinced he’d play such a major role in a Premier League team.“I don’t think there will be too many clubs after him unless the asking price is one that suits them, but Celtic aren’t going to let him go for cheap.“They don’t want to lose him and I expect they’ll be prepared to turn down the interest in him.“They’re in the Champions League and always competing for all of the domestic trophies, so I don’t think he’s going to have his head turned."
Of course, it is possible that Carter-Vickers might feel that he has unfinished business in the Premier League. He spent so many years with Tottenham Hotspur but never really broke into the first-team picture. Instead, he was out on loan at a variety of Championship clubs before ending up at Celtic.
Then again, in recent years, many Celtic players have found out that the grass is not greener on the other side. Even if that is the Premier League. Just ask Odsonne Edouard.
