The good news from the last 24 hours is that Mike Maignan is feeling a lot better after his scary head injury, and optimism has emerged regarding the Atalanta game.
This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports that Maignan is fine and wants to ‘play at all costs’ on Sunday night against Atalanta. The blow he suffered in a nasty clash with teammate Alex Jimenez during the 4-0 win over Udinese is no longer causing him pain.
The Frenchman followed the protocol and spent a night in hospital, but fortunately all the tests – including a CT scan on Tuesday – showed no further complications. Maignan didn’t train at Milanello yesterday either, he had another day off, but today he is ready to return to individual training.
To resume group training, however, he will have to wait a few more days because the protocol for cases involving blows to the head says that a player cannot train with his team-mates and play official matches for seven days.
A decision will be made only at the last minute and, given that it is a head injury, the utmost caution will be used. However, there is cautious optimism that the former Lille man could be back against La Dea at San Siro on Easter Sunday.
