Ever since it was announced that Kevin De Bruyne would leave Manchester City at the end of the season, the question has become, where will De Bruyne play next season? Based on De Bruyne’s talent he could have his choice of clubs at the end of the season. Now there have been several new reports indicating that several Premier League clubs have an interest in signing De Bruyne. Could we see the unthinkable happen and the Manchester City legend line up against Pep Guardiola’s side next season?

Mark Brus has relayed a report from SkySports for CaughtOffside that Aston Villa have held discussions internally over a potential summer move for De Bruyne. Simon Phillips has also reported via his exclusive SubStack column that Chelsea also have registered an interest in signing De Bruyne in the summer.

Another update has emerged on De Bruyne’s potential destination at the end of the season. Fabrizio Romano has reported on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast that Kevin De Bruyne is open to a discussion with MLS side Chicago Fire. Furthermore, Romano reports that De Bruyne is interested in hearing the idea and vision that the Chicago Fire have for him. Lastly, Romano adds that De Bruyne could stay in Europe if the right opportunity presents itself.

Kevin De Bruyne could play against Manchester City next season but hopefully that doesn’t occur.

Based on the new reports there is a realistic chance that De Bruyne could line up against City next season. That will depend on what he decides to do. But what’s become clear of late is that De Bruyne can still perform in the Premier League. He has played an important role in City’s recent resurgence. De Bruyne isn’t what he was as a player but he is still a quality midfielder. He’d be a good recruit for a club like Aston Villa. The Belgian international would add something different to Unai Emery’s side. As for Chelsea, that may depend on if De Bruyne thinks he has unfinished business at the club.

From a Manchester City fan point of view, the hope is that De Bruyne does go the MLS or anywhere other than the Premier League. It wouldn’t sit right to him play against City. But De Bruyne’s earned the right to do whatever he chooses with the next step of his storied career. If that is to stay in England and prove a point to the City hierarchy that he still has it in the Premier League so be it. Although it’s not a sight I’d like to see based on what Kevin De Bruyne means to everyone associated with Manchester City.
