Former Terriers sporting director Leigh Bromby is heading to Pride Park
Derby County are set to add a new face to their recruitment team ahead of the summer transfer window, with ex-Huddersfield Town chief Leigh Bromby close to arriving at Pride Park.
The Rams are closing in on securing their spot in the 2025-26 Championship, but it will be taken to the final day of the current campaign, where a win over Stoke City will guarantee their survival.
It appears that whatever happens though, plans are already in place for their transfer drive irrespective of the division they find themselves in, with an experienced new face set to come into the fold.
According to The Telegraph journalist John Percy, Derby are bringing in Bromby to their transfer team, where he will become the Recruitment Lead on an interim basis.
In February 2023, Derby headhunted Mark Thomas from Oxford United to become part of their recruitment team, where he now has the official title of 'Talent Identification Lead', which implies that he will be scouting potential signings whilst Bromby tries to get them over the line.
Bromby is no stranger to such a role, having been Huddersfield Town's 'Head of Football Operations' for three years between 2020 and 2023.
Prior to that, Bromby was a youth coach at the Terriers as well as academy manager, whilst he held similar roles in the years prior at Leeds United.
With 388 professional appearances to his name for the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Leeds, 44-year-old Bromby possesses a wealth of experience both on and off the pitch, and he will be hoping to bring some gems to County and for head coach John Eustace to develop.
Bromby was a relative novice in the sporting director game when appointed by Huddersfield in the summer of 2020, and it was a club that needed a rebuild after struggling in the Championship for a year after their Premier League relegation.
Success didn't come immediately, with a 20th-placed finish in his first season as Head of Football Operations, but he did bring Carlos Corberan in as head coach - a decision that almost paid off 12 months later when Town got to the Championship play-off final.
As part of the hierarchy at Huddersfield, he was able to convince players such as Levi Colwill to join on loan, although his record of permanent transfers in his three years at the club perhaps leave a lot to be desired.
His experience at the John Smith's Stadium though should stand him in good stead for his upcoming role with Derby, who will need to add fresh faces to Eustace's squad if they survive in the Championship and want to move up the standings in 2025-26.
