Legendary Italian coach Arrigo Sacchi has recently voiced his support for Carlo Ancelotti, amidst growing criticism surrounding the Real Madrid manager’s second tenure at the club.

Ancelotti is now facing some of the toughest moments of his career, especially after Real Madrid’s disappointing exit from the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal.

However, Sacchi, who has witnessed the highs and lows of football management, believes that the club should reconsider any thoughts of parting ways with the experienced coach.

Sacchi’s thoughts on Ancelotti’s legacy

Sacchi expressed his disappointment with the way Ancelotti has been treated by both the media and some Real Madrid fans.

He feels that the harsh criticism aimed at Ancelotti following the Champions League quarter-final defeat is unjustified.

“What makes me sad, even though it’s part of football, is that everyone criticises Carletto for their elimination from the Champions League and blames him for it,” he said.

He added that the constant focus on the negatives of Ancelotti’s tenure fails to appreciate his immense contributions to the sport.

“Do these people know who Ancelotti is? Do they know what he’s won? I consider him a true master of football.

“Real Madrid should think twice or three times before parting ways with someone like Carletto,” Sacchi stated.

Difficult in dealing with Perez

Sacchi also discussed the difficulties Ancelotti has faced this season with his squad. Real Madrid have been plagued by injuries, forcing Ancelotti to field an unbalanced team for several crucial matches.

“Let’s take a look at their squad this season. They had a lot of injuries and were forced to play many games without a natural defender,” Sacchi pointed out.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the club’s sporting strategy has not been ideal, particularly with their signing of Kylian Mbappe, who, according to Sacchi, has not lived up to expectations.

Sacchi expressed his concerns about the way the club is run. He criticised the focus on offensive players at the expense of defensive reinforcements, citing an example from his own experience with Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez.

“I know the Real Madrid environment well, and I’m familiar with Florentino Pérez because I worked as Real Madrid’s technical director.

“He’s a great president, but he focuses too much on the forwards. Think that to convince him to sign Sergio Ramos, I had to fight for three months, because he doesn’t even look at the defenders,” Sacchi revealed.
