The Real Madrid midfielder became a minority owner of the football club this week.

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton believes that the partnership between Swansea City and their new co-owner, Luka Modric, is a smart one.

The EFL does produce some mental stories on a regular basis, but even at this hectic time in the footballing calendar nobody expected a current Real Madrid legend to become the part-owner of a Championship side, but here we are.

We essentially got a 'Here we go' from Fabrizio Romano when he announced on Monday that Modric had agreed a deal with the Swans to invest in the club. This story was confirmed later that day.

In the Ballon D'or winner's first words to the club's supporters, he explained why he chose the Welsh side. "Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase, and the ambition to compete at the highest level," Modric said.

"Playing at the highest level, I believe I can provide my experience to the club. My goal is to support the club’s growth in a positive way and to help to build an exciting future."

Big things predicted for Swansea & Luka Modric partnership

The Swans would love to have a player of the 39-year-old's calibre in their first-team right now, although Romano confirmed that this new step in Modric's life won't affect his playing career, and that he wanted to stick with Real.

Still the connections and attention that he will bring to the team should be a great help for them, and you can see the fit; both have reputations for playing an elegant style of football. Prutton exclusively told Football League World that he can certainly see this being a good thing for the Swans.

He said: "Modric is now a minority owner of Swansea, obviously following the lead of the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Tom Brady, JJ Watt at Burnley. I'm sure, financially, there will be a benefit in there somewhere.

"He knows English football very, very well indeed. It did come as a surprise but, because of my love of the EFL, I can see what the attraction is. I'm sure there must be a shrewd business element to it.

"The great work being done, ongoing, by Alan Sheehan, I think would be one that would attract. A team that, at one stage, looked a bit dicey but are now going to be able to enjoy the rest of the season.

"I would assume that (Modric's) control, albeit as a minority owner, adds a real touch of class to a really classy football club who have had some superb players over the years. Whether there is an element of that, whether there's an element of the PR side of it, I think it sounds like a pretty good connection there."

Swansea must get their next major step right

Getting Modric on board with the ownership group is a really big thing for Swansea. Next up is deciding who their next long-term manager should be. Sheehan has been in interim charge since Luke Williams was sacked just under two months ago. Sheehan is reportedly attracting interest from other second tier sides while Swansea stall over which direction to move in.

Modric, because of his minority stake in the club, won't have any major say in who is ultimately appointed, but it's a decision that the club has to get right. They will be hoping that the allure of working with the Croatian international might attract some candidates that would have previously been above their pay grade.
