Don Goodman has cast doubts on Millwall's chances of finishing in the top six in the Championship, with just two games to go in the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

The Lions are currently three points behind Coventry City, who occupy the final play-off position, but after tasting a bitterly disappointing 4-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Good Friday, their chances are limited.

Alex Neil's side ran out 3-1 winners over Norwich City on Monday, but they do have the second-worst goal difference out of the teams that still have a chance of a top six finish and a win for the Sky Blues and Bristol City could see the South London outfit's hopes fade even further ahead of the last day.

Nevertheless, this has been an excellent season for Millwall, and their manager deserves a lot of praise for the job that he has done since arriving at The Den in December 2024.

Goodman weighs in on Millwall's chances of finishing in the play-offs

This season has flown by for many, and Lions supporters must still be pinching themselves at the fact that they have a chance of the play-offs considering the rollercoaster of a year that 2024/25 has been.

Neil Harris' departure in the winter was not one that many saw coming, but Neil has done an excellent job keeping momentum going throughout his tenure.

However, speaking exclusively to Football League World, Don Goodman has predicted Millwall to narrowly miss out on a place in the top six.

He told FLW: "Millwall have had the most fantastic season and it's been a brilliant effort from Alex Neil and the players to get to where they're at. But I do think that their goal difference will ultimately be the thing that decides their fate in terms of can they do it?

"I guess really you would have to back Coventry City and Bristol City to both win one of their remaining games, and if they do, that will rule Millwall out, certainly due to goal difference at the very least."

Goodman continued: "Millwall’s last game of the season is away at Burnley. Scott Parker has said that they are very much going to try and win the title and the only way that Burnley will get to win the title is if results go their way and they beat Millwall.

"So, although it's been a brilliant season, I can't see Millwall sneaking into the play-offs."

Millwall's play-off dream could be over by Saturday evening

While they do still have that slim chance of finishing sixth, their dreams could be quashed quickly if Middlesbrough beat Norwich City and Millwall lose to Swansea City due to Boro facing Coventry on the final day.

Nevertheless, The Den has been a fortress at times for the Lions this season, and they will be looking to halt the Swans' momentum and deny them an opportunity of a play-off spot with a win.

Their loss to Blackburn severely hampered their quest for the top six, and Neil will rue that defeat come the end of the campaign, but he will not be willing to give up before it is mathematically over and there will be plenty of eyes on Millwall's progress at home this weekend.
