Feyenoord advised to move for alternative Sem Steijn transfer | OneFootball

Feyenoord would be wise to buy Luciano Valente instead of Sem Steijn, according to Pierre van Hooijdonk. Valente represents more transfer value in the long term, according to the NOS analyst.

Steijn, the Eredivisie top scorer with 23 goals, was a topic of discussion on Studio Voetbal on Sunday evening after the Rotterdam club registered interest in the FC Twente midfielder.

Theo Janssen took the floor first. “If you look at the type of player he is, and if you then look at the midfielders that Feyenoord has, then I would probably choose Steijn.”

Van Hooijdonk disagreed. “I think that’s quite a lot (8 or 9 million euros). I think that’s quite a lot for a domestic transfer. Feyenoord doesn’t have a very good track record with transfers that came from Twente for that price.” Van Hooijdonk was referring to Ramiz Zerrouki, who has not been able to develop into an undisputed regular player in Rotterdam.

“I think that in Valente there is a player who is really at the beginning of his career, who can make huge steps. With Steijn you know what you get. You get his goals, he will always score them. But I don’t see him taking another step after that, that you as a club also benefit from it.”
