Marc Cucurella spent eight years at FC Barcelona, having joined the famed La Masia academy from Espanyol in 2012.
The left-back rose through the ranks but managed only one senior appearance for the Catalans and had loan spells at Eibar and Getafe, before joining the latter club permanently in 2020.
Cucurella’s career has been on an upward trajectory ever since. After enjoying an impressive season at Brighton & Hove Albion, he moved to Chelsea in a big-money move in 2022 and has grown in stature despite a slow start.
Now a regular in the Spanish national team, the 26-year-old was a key part of the side that won the UEFA Euro 2024.
Ahead of La Roja’s upcoming UEFA Nations League match against the Netherlands, Cucurella sat down for an interview during which he discussed all things Barcelona.
The 26-year-old admitted that while he still follows the club closely, he is not thinking of a return to his boyhood club in the future.
“The truth is that I’m not thinking about it now. I mean, I’m fine where I am and so on, I’m enjoying the moment,” said Cucurella, as quoted by SPORT.

The Spanish left-back further stated that he and his family are very happy in London and as such, a return to his homeland is not in his mind at the moment.
“The truth is that I think they are happier than I am in London. I like it a lot to live and they are very comfortable and time is a bit of a killer, but I think that for an experience of a few years…,” said Cucurella.
“Let’s see, never say never, right? I don’t think I’d stay there forever, but for a few more years, I’m very happy.”
However, Cucurella did admit that he still follows his former club closely and enjoys how they are playing under Hansi Flick this season.
“I like to watch Barça. Especially now, this year. It’s a lot of fun to watch. Because a lot of things happen and they play very offensively. I don’t watch them every game, but from time to time I put them on TV and I watch them,” said the defender.
