A game that saw Newcastle United make it seven wins from their last eight matches in all competitions.

Dermot Gallagher talking to Sky Sports about these Newcastle v Ipswich controversial incidents:

Did Ipswich get lucky with Bruno’s ruled out goal?

Referee Michael Salisbury at St James’ Park.

Bruno Guimaraes had the ball in the net but was deemed to have fouled Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer. What’s Bruno Guimaraes meant to do here?

“I think the fact he [Bruno] turned his back on the goalkeeper swayed the referee.

“And once the ref gave a foul the VAR is never going to send him to the screen.”

Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock:

“I don’t understand why it’s not given.

“He [Bruno Guimaraes] stands his ground.

“He doesn’t influence anything the goalkeeper does. The goalkeeper runs into him.

“From Bruno’s point of view, he’s expecting a knee in the back and the keeper to claim it.

“I’m not having that at all. It’s soft.”

INCIDENT:

Ben Johnson was sent off for Ipswich for two yellow cards. The first was for simulation – Kieran McKenna was frustrated and says Johnson never dives. So did this warrant a yellow?

DERMOT GALLAGHER:

“I do think a yellow card for this.

“He doesn’t have to go through the air like this.

“He doesn’t get touched.

“He goes flying through the air for no reason. I think it’s a dive.

“It’s come back to bite him because seven minutes later he gets a second yellow card.”
