Derby day is upon us once again, as AC Milan and Inter will face each other for the fourth time this season and in the third different competition.
The occasion tonight is the first leg of the semi-final of the Coppa Italia, with the winner earning a place in the Rome final at the end of the season. The opponent seems certain to be Bologna who won 3-0 against Empoli in the other first leg last night.
The Coppa Italia takes on some extra importance for Milan because winning it guarantees a place in the Europa League, and at present they will not earn a European spot in the league. For Inter, it would keep alive their hopes of another historic treble.
The Italian media have obviously focused on tonight’s game, but also the news that Fabio Paratici should soon be named as Milan’s sporting director.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Electric derby. Conceiçao tries again with Leao: another trophy to say goodbye. Inzaghi against a curse to keep the treble hope alive.
“De Zerbi emerges for Paratici’s Milan. Sporting director chosen. Also Conte and Allegri for the bench.”
Corriere dello Sport: “The treble passes through this. The fourth season derby it’s decisive for Inzaghi’s dream. Simone picks Thuram and Correa. Conceiçao provokes.”
“Inter have not won any of the previous three meetings and it’s a chance to follow the maximum target. Sergio: ‘Try to see for how many years Milan haven’t won two titles’.”
“Paratici new Milan director: here we are.”
Tuttosport: “Inzaghi, derby nightmare. The leaders, unlike the Rossoneri against whom they have lost twice and drawn once, are still without titles.”
“Conceiçao: ‘For how long haven’t Milan won a trophy?’ Simone: ‘We’re running on all fronts’.”
“Milan, Paratici’s time. New meeting in London between Furlani and the director: the signature is close.
“Here’s De Cuyper: if Cambiaso goes to the Premier League, a challenge with Milan.”
