AC Milan should be back with their number one between the sticks this weekend, as a report this morning suggests.
In Udine, Mike Maignan seemingly suffered a very serious injury, with the goalkeeper colliding with Alex Jimenez and looking unconscious after. Medics rushed onto the pitch, and the Frenchman was sent straight to the hospital.
Luckily, reports in the following days stated that the ‘keeper was ok, and could be ready as early as this weekend. However, there was a general feeling that Maignan would not be risked against Atalanta, instead preferring to wait until the game in midweek versus Inter.
This is not to be the case, though, as Gazzetta dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera) write that the goalkeeper fought ‘destiny’ and will return against La Dea at San Siro on Sunday. According to the report, the decision was made by the Frenchman who ‘pushed’ to be selected.
It seems that the 29-year-old’s ‘will’ to return was too great for the club to reasonably turn down, so barring any late changes, he will play from the start against Gian Piero Gasperini’s side. Also returning should be Santiago Gimenez, though the Mexican will probably have to settle for a place on the bench.
