GdS: Why Milan’s season finale holds value even if it doesn’t revoke failures

The Coppa Italia is the last chance for this AC Milan team to salvage some credibility this season, but it cannot hide the year’s failings.
Put simply, this season has been below par. From start to finish, Milan as a whole have been poor and there is no way to recover it fully. After all, the Rossoneri will not play in Europe’s top competition next season.
That being said, there is a chance to limit the damage. For example, winning the Coppa Italia would grant a boost to the budget, whilst the club have already gained a place in the Supercoppa Italiana, which they will hope to retain next year.
However, as Gazzetta dello Sport writes, it is the Europa League where salvation really can arrive, which would only be a possibility with a win in the Coppa Italia final.
It would be a financial boost as well as a morale one, which the club need massively. However, what it would not be is a shield against this season’s truth, which is admittedly very poor.
There can be no hiding from the failures of this season. In the Champions League, poor. In Serie A, poor. Of course, it would be a nice mask; two trophies, European football, but it would only be a light cover against the bleakness of the rest of the season.
