FC Barcelona were once again in top form as they beat Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie last night.
With this win, the Blaugranes have all but secured a place in the semi-final of the top European competition, even though there is still a second leg to be played in Germany next week.
The Blaugrana trident of Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha was once again key for the Catalan side, as they all got on the score in this game.
With his goal, the Brazilian winger took his tally in the UCL to 12 goals, thus not only consolidating his standing as the top scorer in this edition of the competition but also getting near to reaching the historic record of the highest number of goals a player has scored in a single edition of the Champions League.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Raphinha also talked to the media after the game. His goal on the night stood after VAR intervened, as he was barely in an onside position in that move. Furthermore, Cubarsi’s shot could have ended up in the back of the net even if the Brazilian had not touched it.
Thus, Raphinha took the opportunity to clear things up about his goal in this media talk:
“I was quite worried about whether I was offside or not. I had my doubts. I told (Cubarsí) that I had touched the ball before the line and that the goal might be mine. I apologized, but he told me it was fine and to credit him with the assist… [The play] was a quick moment, I thought the ball might go out or not… it was partly because I wanted to score goals.”
The Barcelona star also expressed his satisfaction with his colleagues in the attacking line:
“I love playing with very high-level players… we’re managing to put up spectacular numbers, and I hope we keep it up.”
Despite the big win in the first leg, the Brazilian did not want to see his team as having progressed to the semis just yet:
“I’m not going to take this for granted. There’s another match, and playing there is always tough. In front of their fans, they’re a team with quality, and it’s always hard to beat them. We’ve gotten a good result, and we have to keep it up.”
Raphinha is quite right in this aspect, as despite their favourable position, Barcelona will have to get the job done as they visit Dortmund next week. Hopefully, the Brazilian will be able to add even more goals to his UCL tally in that game.
