In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Liverpool are set to rival Manchester United for Stade Reims midfielder Amadou Kone. It has been mentioned that the Reds are eager to get a deal done for the Ivory Coast talent.
The 19-year-old has come through the youth ranks of the French club and has done well to establish himself as an important member of their senior team. Kone has already made 42 appearances for Stade Reims so far but is still waiting to score his first goal for the club.
The talented midfielder has offered decent protection for his teammates at the back as he is averaging 2.1 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per game in Ligue 1 football. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 87.2% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
Kone’s current contract at the French club will expire in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for the Reds to sign him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Kone loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. The Ivory Coast sensation mainly functions as a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or play in the number ten position if needed.
Kone is an accurate passer of the ball as well but needs to add a few goals to his game. Furthermore, there are some concerns over whether he can cope with the high intensity of the Premier League.
Kone would no doubt add more bite and steel to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s midfield. He has the potential to be a regular starter at the Merseyside club in the coming years.
At 19, the future looks quite promising for Kone. With all things considered, he would be a great choice for the Reds to consider in the long run. However, Slot would have to be patient with his development before he can get the best out of the gifted youngster at Anfield.
