Liverpool have reportedly made contact with people close to Alexander Isak ahead of a possible summer transfer.
With two months remaining in the current campaign and the Premier League title effectively sewn up, the Reds are putting into motion plans to upgrade Arne Slot’s squad.
The Merseyside outfit were quiet in each of the past two transfer windows, making just two permanent signings, but Sunday’s League Cup final defeat to Newcastle United illustrated the need for an infusion of fresh blood.
It is certainly going to be a very busy summer at Anfield if the latest report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is anything to go by.
Romano claims that Liverpool are looking to sign at least one new centre-back and a forward while offloading a few players ahead of next season.
Mercurial striker Darwin Nunez is “expected” the depart, while there is a “concrete possibility” Luis Diaz follows him out the door, although it is “not guaranteed”.
The Colombia international has been linked with a move to Barcelona, while there was interest from the Saudi Pro League in January. Romano also claims there was “genuine interest” from Manchester City last summer.
Liverpool seem keen on replacing Uruguay star Nunez with Isak, who scored what turned out to be winning goal at Wembley this past weekend.
Newcastle United are determined to hold onto the Swedish superstar, but the Magpies will receive “big, massive proposals” for the 25-year-old in the transfer window.
Isak is “one of the names” Liverpool are looking at signing, but they will have to battle it out with Arsenal, who have made him their “absolute top target”.
