Manchester United have joined Manchester City in the race to sign AS Monaco forward Maghnes Akliouche (23), who is expected to leave his formative club in the summer, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Amid interest from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain last summer, Akliouche opted to stay at Monaco, even extending his deal until 2028. However, the Principality club have fostered a model of selling on their best and brightest when the time is right, and that time has come for Akliouche, who, after his most consistent season, is in the conversation for a first call-up to the France national team.
However, a departure is expected this summer and Monaco have set a price tag betwen €70-80m. “When you ask me, he is ready to make the next step. We will see what happens with Maghnes,” said Hütter yesterday.
There is no shortage of suitors, despite the price tag. Manchester City’s and PSG’s interest remains. City’s cross-city rivals, Manchester United, are also in the race, according to L’Équipe. Real Madrid could also show interest in the event that Xabi Alonso is appointed manager. The Spaniard is a big fan of the France youth international.
