FLW's Blackburn Rovers fan pundit has named three players he feels need to improve.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Blackburn Rovers are yet to win a game since the appointment of Valerien Ismael as head coach.
The Frenchman was appointed to replace John Eustace last month, after the former Rovers boss left Ewood Park to take up the vacant position at relegation-threatened Derby County, despite the fact that Blackburn were in the midst of a play-off push at the time.
Ismael drew his first game in charge against Norwich City courtesy of a dramatic late equaliser from Andreas Weimann, but since then he has seen his side lose three games on the bounce and go five points adrift of the top six as a result.
Those defeats have come against Derby, Stoke City and Cardiff City, three sides that are fighting for survival towards the bottom of the Championship table, and with a tricky game against Portsmouth at Fratton Park up next after the international break, Rovers will need to produce a resilient performance of their own if they are going to keep their play-off hopes alive.
Pompey are another side that are in danger of being dragged into the relegation zone, so Blackburn will need to be prepared for a fiercely contested 90 minutes in front of a big atmosphere, and their players will need to show the sort of character that has arguably been missing since the arrival of Ismael if they are going to end their winless run.
We asked our Blackburn fan pundit, Simon Middlehurst, whether there were any players in the squad who he feels need to improve between now and the end of the season.
"One player that we need to see improvement from at the club right now? Probably any player from one to 11 at the minute," Simon said.
"Todd Cantwell, he is one. He really needs to start pulling his weight now. I know he came with a bit of a reputation, but he has been so inconsistent this season that he really needs to start pulling his weight.
"Also, if you look at Dom Hyam as well, he probably has not played as well as what you would expect during the last few games.
"Aynsley Pears is another one who really needs to start cutting out the silly mistakes that have been going on between him and the defence.
"They are probably our three players there that need to start pulling their fingers out."
With eight games remaining in the Championship season, Blackburn are five points adrift of the play-off places, so they must turn their form around as soon as possible if they are going to have any chance of finishing in the top six.
With a potentially vital game against Middlesbrough just around the corner after the international break, it is imperative that Rovers get back to winning ways against Portsmouth.
Blackburn have a couple of difficult away games against Sunderland and Sheffield United towards the end of the campaign, but if their underperforming players can find some form before then, they may be able to turn things around against the odds.
It looks set to be a frustrating end to the season for Rovers, but all hope will not be lost as long as their squad steps up after the international break.
