Stefan de Vrij says that Inter Milan “gave our all and it wasn’t enough” in yesterday’s Coppa Italia loss to AC Milan.
The 33-year-old spoke to InterTV after the 0-3 semifinal second leg loss, via FCInterNews. He gave the view that it had been a “match that was decided by the big moments.”
Inter Milan lost to AC Milan in the second leg of a Coppa Italia semifinal tie yesterday.
And it wasn’t just any loss for the Nerazzurri.
The derby is always a hugely emotionally charged match. Therefore, regardless of what is at stake, it is a match that both sides give everything to win.
Then, there is the fact that Inter had previously faced Milan four times this season without a victory. That wretched sequence followed a run of six straight derby wins.
That made yesterday’s loss all the more humbling for Inter.
Furthermore, Milan did not just beat their city rivals. They did so by a scoreline of 3-0.

After the match, Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij rued that “it was a match that was decided by individual moments.”
“I think we played well in the first half,” the former Lazio defender went on. “We created chances, we were a team.”
“We defended as a unit,” de Vrij said.
“But we didn’t end up scoring. And then they did with their only chance.”
“In the second half we tried to get back into it,” continued de Vrij. “But unfortunately we didn’t succeed.”
“We didn’t lack commitment,” Stefan de Vrij insisted.
“We gave everything. But unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.”
The Dutchman admitted that “it’s a loss that hurts a lot, but we have to put it behind us and look forward because we still have a lot of matches left to go.”
“We started the match the way we wanted. But unfortunately we didn’t score.”
