Newcastle United are prepared to rival Manchester United for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap as the long-term future of Alexander Isak remains uncertain.
Alexander Isak has transformed the club’s attack since his arrival in 2022. But as the 2025 summer window nears, his future is once again the subject of intense speculation.
Newcastle remain hopeful of keeping their talisman. However, growing interest from Liverpool and Arsenal has forced the club to draw up a contingency plan. According to The Telegraph, Liam Delap has now emerged as a realistic transfer target.
Liam Delap has impressed in his breakout Premier League season for Ipswich Town. The 21-year-old has scored 12 goals under Kieran McKenna in his debut top-flight campaign, showcasing pace, power and a clinical edge.
Despite Delap’s efforts, Ipswich look set for relegation. Their survival hopes hang by a thread, and The Telegraph reports that Newcastle are now ready to pounce.
Delap has a release clause of £30million. It will become active in case Ipswich suffer Premier League relegation. That is expected to happen, and Newcastle are among the clubs preparing to act.
The report also claims that Manchester United are monitoring the situation, but Newcastle are keen to move quickly. Eddie Howe’s recruitment team have followed Delap’s development closely since his Manchester City youth days.
Delap was once considered one of the best prospects in English football. A move to St James’ Park would give him the platform to fulfil that promise, either as Alexander Isak’s successor or high-level backup for a season in Europe.
Liverpool are seriously interested in signing Alexander Isak. The 25-year-old has become one of the most feared forwards in the league this season. He scored a vital goal in the League Cup final against Liverpool, ending Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a major trophy.
Isak has 21 goals to his name this season, and Newcastle still want to tie him down with a new deal. But contract talks have slowed, and the Magpies are now bracing for bids.
If a huge offer arrives, the club could reinvest that fee in multiple signings – including Delap.
