Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda, who will arrive at the club next summer.

Fans are already getting excited, and they will be even more impatient when they hear quotes from a man who plays with the 17 year old for club and country, Francisco Trincao.

“Quenda is not only a great player, but he is also a great kid,” he said to Portuguese football paper O Jogo.

“He knows the quality he has, but he also knows how to listen and listens to everyone, he knows he has to work, and he works very well. On the field, he is not afraid of having the ball, nor of going forward and doing what he knows how to do so well, so I think his future will be bright.”

That’s important – we’re trying to build a good squad with good character, not just buy the flashiest youngsters around. Everything we’ve heard so far has been very positive about the Portugal international’s character as well as his ability.

Trincao isn’t the only person who rates Quenda. According to Simon Johnson of the Athletic, Chelsea consider him on a level with the world’s best young attacker Lamine Yamal, as well as Estevao Willian, the Brazilian wonderkid set to join Chelsea this summer:

“Chelsea see him as one of the best young wingers in the world, along with Estêvão Willian and [Lamine] Yamal of Barcelona. They see him that sort of calibre of player,” Johnson wrote.

The best part is, Quenda has another whole year on loan with Sporting to continue playing and developing. There’s no telling how could he could be by the time he finally pulls on a Blue shirt.
