If Barcelona’s meeting with Mallorca earlier this season ended with a 5-1 scoreline in favour of the Catalans, last night’s game should have finished with an equal, if not better, scoreline.

Hansi Flick’s men, after all, were dominant from start to finish against Mallorca last night at Montjuic and had chances regularly throughout the game.

For the first half to go goalless for Barcelona was simply bizarre for they created close to ten chances of which close to four were even double chances. However, they eventually did find their opener through Dani Olmo early in the second half.

Barcelona continued to dominate and press for a second goal even after scoring but it did not materialise for long. Eventually, the game ended 1-0 in their favour and brought home three crucial points.

Barça Universal brings you the player ratings from Barcelona 1-0 Mallorca.

Wojciech Szczesny: 7

Not one of Szczesny’s busy nights as Mallorca made barely any threat to the Barcelona goal in any capacity. Was solid with his distribution and runs out.

Hector Fort: 7

Fort was given a rare start by Hansi Flick, surprisingly at left-back in place of Gerard Martin, and the youngster showed a good understanding of his defensive responsibility.

While he lacked the usual pace Barcelona required on their left flank, he was solid at the back and still managed to get into attacking positions with his trickery. Looked comfortable on the ball.

Inigo Martinez: 8

The Spanish veteran was again outstanding in defence and racked up unreal numbers despite Mallorca’s subdued attacking threat.

Played a pivotal role in the team’s buildup phase too as he completed over 95% of his passes and served as the starting point for many of Barcelona’s regular attacks.

Ronald Araujo: 7

Araujo started the game in place of Pau Cubarsi who deserved a night off, especially after his fatigued performances against Celta Vigo and Borussia Dortmund.

The Uruguayan star did well to bring in brute defensive force into Barcelona’s back-line and served as a target man during set-pieces. Showed improvement with his distribution as well.

Eric Garcia: 7.5

The defender started at right-back in place of Jules Kounde who Hansi Flick finally handed a day off and he did well in terms of holding the fortress defensively.

Did not stand out in the final third quite as much as Kounde but he did manage to pull off a great cross to assist Dani Olmo’s opening goal. All in all, a very solid performance and a call for more regular starts at right-back for the defender.

Gavi: 7.5

One of Gavi’s most solid appearances in recent weeks as he looked confident as ever not only in possession but also with his duels and defensive actions off the ball.

Painfully struck the post in the first half and had the biggest chance of the opening 45 minutes despite playing a deeper role as part of the double pivot.

Pedri: 9

Pedri was otherworldly against Mallorca and ran the game to his tunes, controlling the midfield and toying with the visitors.

Broke open the opponent’s defence time and time again and should have completed the game with several assists to his name

Dani Olmo: 9

Olmo made his first start since returning from injury and was easily Barcelona’s most important attacking threat, constantly lurking in the Mallorca box and getting into scoring positions.

Was unlucky to not get on the scoresheet in the first half where he had several chances, even off the rebound, to put Barcelona ahead.

Struck gold seconds after the restart of play in the second half as he took his time to evaluate his options and fire the ball into the far corner.

Lamine Yamal: 8.5

The Golden Boy looked fresh against Mallorca, contrary to the fatigued version of him which was visible in the team’s last two games.

Pulled the strings in the final third and operated as Barcelona’s primary creative outlet in attack with both Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski not starting the game.

Ansu Fati: 7.5

The young star made just his second start of the season and was impressive for the relative lack of minutes he has faced this season.

Was not sharp in front of the goal but his movements on the field, runs off the ball and positioning were on point and encouraging.

Ferran Torres: 7

The Shark did not bite against Mallorca despite starting in red hot form. He replaced Robert Lewandowski in the starting lineup and got into good scoring chances but just failed to find a way to put the ball beyond Leo Roman.

Was relatively more silent in the second period and did not command as much of a presence in the Mallorca box.
