Premier League predictions: Gameweek 33

Ten Premier League matches span a sunlit four-day bank holiday weekend, with no rest for clubs in the English top-flight.

However, unfortunately for the neutrals, there appears little drama to be had at the top and bottom of the table between now and the end of the season. Liverpool's 13-point cushion at the summit is insurmountable and an even greater buffer separates the promoted trio from West Ham United in 17th place.

Any excitement is likely to come from the race for European qualification and Gameweek 33 could prove decisive in the battle. There are tricky trips for Nottingham Forest and Manchester City, while Newcastle United and Aston Villa lock horns in Saturday's late spectacle.

Here are 90min's predictions for the upcoming Premier League matches.

Man City took a substantial step towards Champions League qualification as they fired five past Crystal Palace last weekend but reaching Europe's premier competition remains far from guaranteed. The Cityzens are fifth in the table at present and are playing catch-up to Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, with a trip to Everton this weekend not straightforward. The Toffees are incredibly tough to beat and could dent City's European aspirations.

Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion have both harboured hopes of continental qualification this season but those have since dissipated. A drop in standards over recent weeks for the pair mean Saturday's duel is not of particular significance, although Thomas Frank and Fabian Hurzeler will both want to finish as high as possible to secure a little extra cash.

Crystal Palace had been in encouraging form before conceding ten across their last two matches, with a midweek humbling at St James' Park leaving the Eagles short on confidence. They face Bournemouth this weekend, who were struggling for success prior to Monday night's narrow victory over Fulham on the south coast.

A bleak battle towards the foot of the table sees West Ham host relegated Southampton. The Irons are not in any danger of joining the Saints in the Championship next term but have failed to make drastic improvements under Graham Potter and are now slumped in 17th. They came close to a point at Anfield last weekend but luck was not on their side.

Saturday's late kick-off is arguably the most significant clash of the weekend as Aston Villa do battle with fellow Champions League hopefuls Newcastle. Five successive Premier League victories have lifted the latter to third - five points clear of the seventh-placed Villans - and they will be hoping to capitalise on Villa's exhausting European exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain midweek.

Chelsea had looked a shoo-in to make the top four prior to the turn of the year but their decline has been alarming in recent months. Enzo Maresca's side are now chasing those above them in the Champions League race and few would be surprised to see them beaten by west London rivals Fulham this weekend. The Cottagers have conquered Liverpool and Spurs in their most recent league matches on home soil.

Ipswich dented Chelsea's European bid last time out and they could hand Liverpool the title on Sunday. Should they beat Arsenal and the Reds win later in the day, the race for top spot would officially be over. Unfortunately for the Tractor Boys, that won't save them from relegation and conquering the Gunners seems extremely unlikely given how the capital side dismantled Real Madrid midweek.

Liverpool will be desperate to see Ipswich prevail prior to their trip to Leicester City, but must focus solely on the job at hand at King Power Stadium. With the Reds needing only six points to win the league, they will be raring to go against their doomed hosts, who will officially be relegated should they taste defeat against Arne Slot's table toppers. They will already be demoted if West Ham win on Saturday and Wolverhampton Wanderers do the same on Sunday.

There is little riding on Manchester United vs Wolves but pride, although the Old Gold can secure survival this weekend. Should they win and Ipswich fail to beat Arsenal, they will be confirmed as a Premier League team for next season. The Red Devils are simply aiming to avoid more embarrassment after their humiliation at Newcastle last Sunday, but will take great confidence from their incredible comeback win over Lyon in the Europa League.

Tottenham find themselves in a similar position to United, with nothing but honour sustaining them for the remainder of the Premier League season. Their Monday night opponents Nottingham Forest are in far greater need of victory in north London as they look to secure a Champions League berth, with last weekend's defeat to Everton making for a nervy conclusion to the campaign.
