The Reds are 12 points clear of Arsenal and have a game in hand, with the Gunners only able to take a maximum of 12 points from here. That means Liverpool require just one more point from their final five games to seal their second title in six years but first in front of supporters since 1990.
Arne Slot’s men host Tottenham on Sunday, with Arsenal having the weekend off ahead of their Champions League semi-final first-leg tie against PSG, after a disappointing 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
That’s one of a host of intriguing ties, with seven Premier League matches taking place in total as Man City, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace compete in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Here are our predictions for all seven games:
Chelsea vs Everton
There are murmurs of discontent around Stamford Bridge, but reaching the Conference League semi-finals (just) and then beating local rivals Fulham 2-1 away have helped a little. However, the Blues face a tough test this weekend against an Everton side that, while lacking the attacking flair to win games, have proven very hard to beat under David Moyes. In fact, Man City, Liverpool and Aston Villa are the only sides to beat the Toffees in his 14 Premier League games back in charge.
During that time, Everton have drawn 1-1 on four occasions and we can see them snatching that sort of result again here.
Back-to-back wins against Arsenal and Leicester in February practically ensured West Ham‘s safety but since then, they’ve failed to win in six, taking just three points from 18. That’s seen the Hammers slip to 17th, needing one more point to be absolutely sure they don’t get relegated. And we should note that while Ipswich winning all their games and West Ham losing all theirs is very unlikely, they do play each other on the final day, so nobody in claret and blue will want to tempt fate. They’ll fancy their chances this weekend against Brighton, even away, given they’re unbeaten in their last three against the Seagulls, who have only taken two points from their last five matches.
Another draw here, but with a bit more goalmouth action.
The 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa was a stunning bump back down to earth after Newcastle‘s recent brilliant run, which included their EFL Cup final win over Liverpool. However, the Magpies are still in the box seat for Champions League qualification, sitting in the fifth and final spot, two points clear of Chelsea. A home tie against an Ipswich side with just four wins and 21 points from 33 games? That should be a walk in the park, although 14 of the Tractor Boys’ points have come on the road this season.
Southampton still need one more point to avoid being the worst Premier League team of all time and if ever there was a chance to avoid that unwanted accolade, it should be against this Fulham side who appear to be creeping toward the beach for the summer. The Cottagers have lost four of their last six Premier League matches, though their two wins during that time were against Liverpool and Spurs. Marco Silva’s men are still ninth, but now trail the top seven by nine points with just 15 left to play for. What’s more, they endured a disappointing 0-0 draw against Southampton earlier this season, so let’s go with that again to let Saints breathe a sigh of relief.
Wolves‘ rise away from trouble has been truly stunning to behold, with Vitor Pereira guiding his side to five consecutive wins, including against Spurs and Man Utd in their last two. Hosting a Leicester side with just one point and nine blanks in their last 10 names, there’s surely only one outcome. Wolves were 3-0 by half-time in the last meeting between these sides and it could be an even bigger scoreline here with the Foxes already relegated.
Man Utd‘s high from their dramatic Europa League win over Lyon didn’t last long, losing 1-0 at home to Wolves last weekend. Of course, their Premier League campaign has long since ended, with qualifying for the Champions League via lifting a trophy their main focus for a while now. This weekend, the Red Devils take on a Bournemouth side slowly recovering from a slump, taking five points from their last three games following a run of just one point from their previous five Premier League outings. The Cherries are unbeaten in their last three against Man Utd and this all seems primed for another disappointing league result for Ruben Amorim.
The final game of this Premier League weekend could be the most important, with Liverpool needing just one point against Spurs to seal the title. The Reds have won their last three league meetings against Tottenham by a 14-5 combined scoreline, so you can expect goals, fun and Arne Slot’s side to get the job done. It’s been a miserable domestic season for Spurs supporters, sitting 16th in the table. However, they’re still in the Europa League, while nihilists will revel in them losing to take any possibility of the title away from Arsenal.
