QPR and Millwall are tracking Middlesbrough defender Anfernee Dijksteel, who is out of contract in the summer.
QPR and Millwall are interested in Middlesbrough defender Anfernee Dijksteel, who will be a free agent in the summer.
The 28-year-old joined Boro in 2019, and he has gone on to make over 150 appearances for the Teesside outfit, which includes 32 in the Championship this season.
However, even though he has featured regularly under Michael Carrick over the past few months, there are major doubts about Dijksteel’s future due to his contract situation.
And, it seems two Championship clubs could be ready to offer the right-back a way out of the Riverside Stadium, as reporter Darren Witcoop revealed that Millwall and QPR are tracking Dijksteel.
Whilst it’s unclear whether they will make an offer, it’s said they are interested, with the R’s looking to bring in defensive reinforcements due to doubts over if they can keep Jimmy Dunne, who is also out of contract in the coming months.
The immediate priority for Dijksteel will be ending the season on a high with Middlesbrough, as Carrick’s side look to secure the final play-off place.
But, that is going to be tough, as not only do Boro need to win at Coventry, but they also need Blackburn and Millwall to fail to pick up three points.
Dijksteel has played regularly this season, but a lot of that has been down to injuries, with Boro’s defence having been stretched for large parts of the campaign.
So, it could have been a very different story for the player, and the fact Boro haven’t moved quickly to tie Dijksteel down on a new contract suggests they were open to the possibility of him departing.
At 28, the former Charlton Athletic man is at a stage in his career where he wants to be playing week in, week out, and that could come at QPR or Millwall.
Ultimately, Dijksteel is in a position where he can decide his next move, and he will obviously weigh up all the factors that he needs to before making a call.
If Millwall or QPR do manage to secure a deal for Dijksteel, you would say that it is shrewd business, as he is a reliable Championship defender who will be picked up on a free.
