Even with the Copa Del Rey final just around the corner and the prospect of a double still alive, Real Madrid appear to have started planning for a managerial change in the summer.
Xabi Alonso is undisputedly the favourite to replace Carlo Ancelotti, with Bayer Leverkusen even expecting an imminent call to hire the Spaniard.
It is well knonw that Alonso has a gentlemen’s agreement in his Bayer Leverkusen contract which will allow him to join one of his former clubs.
The value of the clause has been reported to be around the €10-12 million mark.
To that end, a recent report from COPE has offered an update on Xabi Alonso’s future, suggesting that Real Madrid could secure his release for €8 million.
This is a figure that may seem tempting to Real Madrid considering the fact that earlier reports were pegging a much higher amount.

In any case, it is apparent that Los Blancos must splash the cash and make changes this summer if they are to drag the team out of this mess.
A good start will be to hire someone like Xabi Alonso, who has proven himself during his time at Bayer Leverkusen, having notably won the Bundesliga title last season.
Alonso has been also instrumental behind the rise of many young talents such as Florian Wirtz. This could be handy for Real Madrid, who have fallen behind Barcelona when it comes to building their squad around academy talents.
Nevertheless, there is no reason why Real Madrid should not pay the €8 million release clause to sign Alonso, even though recent reports suggest the club’s president Florentino Perez is not entirely convinced of the Spaniard’s ability to lead the side.
