Real Madrid are far from the situation they would have liked to be at this point in the season.

Their elimination from the UEFA Champions League, that too by a 5-1 aggregate score, was not one many saw coming. But their situation on other fronts is not better either.

Los Blancos are indeed in the final of the Copa del Rey but will face Barcelona who are in far better form at the moment. The league title race, moreover, has the Catalans four points ahead with just six games to go.

It is no secret that Carlo Ancelotti is closer to leaving than staying at Real Madrid, especially given the team’s poor run of form and results in recent weeks.

The management have been clear that the Italian tactician’s future will depend on the trophies he brings, and with the possibility of the team going trophyless now real, he is under the threat of an imminent sacking.

As relayed by Rodra in a recent report, Ancelotti could be sacked immediately after the Copa del Rey final if Real Madrid lose to Barcelona. Thus, he may well be in the final week of his coaching stint at Real Madrid.

If Florentino Perez opts to pull the trigger and sack the coach, Santiago Solari or Raul Gonzalez will take over as Real Madrid’s new interim manager until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Given that the season will still have close to a month before closing, the stand-in will oversee the team likely until July, including the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Merengues’ dressing room have already lost faith in Ancelotti’s tactics and have reportedly conveyed the same to the board as of earlier this month. The Italian, thus, could well be dismissed as early as next week.
